This Week's Comics

A quick selection of stand out titles arriving in comic stores this Thursday:

ASTONISHING X-MEN #30 by Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi

In which Mr Ellis continues to do whatever he pleases with Marvel's flagship team of mutants. Fans of Grant Morrison’s New X-Men and Joss Whedon’s earlier arc should enjoy this. Creative looking layouts and sharp dialogue awaits you. This is the final issue of the current arc 'Ghost Boxes'. I may give the TPB a look when it surfaces.

DAREDEVIL #119 by Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark

Likewise, another Marvel series that’s excelled when placed in the hands of a capable writer. Ed Brubaker continues where Bendis left off, and whilst I’m unsure if this has quite the same impact as the Bendis run, it’s still a distinctly well crafted superhero book.

COMICS JOURNAL #298

The latest instalment of scholarly comics criticism, featuring a full-length interview with Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, who discuss their work on Casanova and The Umbrella Academy.

I’m intrigued to read Bill Randall’s feature on the avant-garde manga anthology AX, which is due it’s first English language outing later this year.

CRAZY HAIR HC by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean

New all ages book from the same duo that brought you the rather wonderful Coraline. I have a feeling this will delight children and parents alike. Worth a look if you have kids, also worth a look if you don't.

BLACK JACK TP VOL 5 by Omasmu Tezuka

Wow, this is up to five volumes already? More adventures featuring Tezuka’s well loved genius surgeon. It’s Tezuka… what more do you want?
